So what exactly is the Bosch SmartphoneHub?

Bosch’s SmartphoneHub Device is the company’s latest take on an electric bicycle display. The hub is designed to allow ebike users access to the internet and other incredible features. The Device mounts directly onto your bike’s handlebars. With the device easily accessible the Bosch SmartphoneHub can be used as a standalone unit with information viewable on its 1.5 inch LCD screen, or if you prefer it can be used as a dock to mount a smartphone where more information can be displayed via the smartphone screen.

What Feature does the Bosch SmartphoneHub have?

It seems in today’s world, we obsess about being connected to the wider world, and whilst being connected to the internet on your ebike might seem like a tall task, Bosch has answered your prayers and created the smartphone hub that does just that.

Have you ever been out in the countryside, enjoying the views whilst riding along on your electric bike, when that wonderfully peaceful feeling has been ended promptly with the downpour of rain? Well no more, the smartphone hub, will notify you with regular weather updates, enabling you to get back home in time to avoid a soaking.

That’s not all though, with its inbuilt fitness tracker, you can keep track of the distance you travel, your heart rate and the calories you have burnt, as well as never getting lost again thanks to its inbuilt navigation system.

As well as the features noted above when used with the COBI bike app your smartphone hub becomes an even more intelligent device, enabling you to perform diagnostic testing on your electric bicycle, along with using smartphone features and additional apps such as Stava or Komoot.

Although the system is designed to be used with a smartphone, the phone does not need to be connected, users can keep their phone in their pocket if they prefer, whilst still benefiting from the Smartphone hubs functions.

This feature will be beneficial for riders traveling on rough terrain or those with an expensive smartphone, as they don’t want to run the risk of being damaged when traveling on bumpy roads and turf.

With built-in voice control, riders are able to listen to commands relating to their navigational path or any other prompts made to them via the hub, without having to take their eyes off the road.

According to Bosch:

“If you also want to use your smartphone while riding your eBike, you’ll find the SmartphoneHub provides the perfect connection: click the smartphone into place, open the COBI. Bike app starts pedaling and the connected eBike experience can begin. Using a 2D or 3D map view, the app will reliably guide you to your destination; if you wish you can even get the navigation instructions as voice output. Accurate weather information enables you to enjoy carefree trips through the countryside. Fitness enthusiasts can keep a permanent eye on their training data such as performance, cadence and calories burned, while a heart rate monitor can also be connected using Bluetooth. The SmartphoneHub can turn into a personal trainer by connecting to fitness and health services like Apple Health, Google Fit, Strava, and Komoot. Entertainment has not been forgotten: the COBI.Bike app allows eBikers access to music and audiobook streaming services, such as Spotify or Audible.”
